The Refinishing Process
Step by step guide to getting the kitchen cabinet update of your dreams!
Step 1: On Day 1 of the project we start on-site in your kitchen removing all of the doors/drawers and labeling them. Next, we remove all of the hardware and hinges and leave them neatly placed in the cabinet box it belongs in.
Side note: * If you’re looking to replace the hinges with a slow close option or replacing the hardware with a different size handle or knob we will do that for you. *
Step 2: On Day 2 of the project we will be off-site in our refinishing shop prepping the doors for paint.
This process requires 3 mandatory steps to get the doors and drawer ready for paint. They are degreasing, sanding and priming.
Side note: * Most clients’ fear the paint “chipping”. This will NOT occur if these 3 steps are done correctly. It is very important that the grease/oils are removed and the wood is sanded thoroughly for the paint to bond to the surface*
Step 3: On Day 2-3 of the project we will be off-site still in our refinishing shop priming and painting the doors and drawers with 2 coats of primer and 2 coats of top coat.
Side Note: * We use factory cabinet coatings, 2k poly by Renner Wood coatings, ICA or Enduro. these paints are mixed with a hardener to block tanning and bleeding and to provide a strong durable finish thats easy to clean. We recommend cleaning with hot water and soap (avoid harsh chemicals).*
Step 4: On Day 4-5-6 of the project we’re back on-site in your kitchen prepping and covering everything thats not being painted with plastic and paper. (pictured below)
We repeat the 3 mandatory steps to get the cabinet boxes ready for paint. They are degreasing, sanding and priming. Next we spray the top coat and let that dry overnight and return the next day to install the finished doors.
The project will typically take roughly 5-7 days to complete and varies due to kitchen size.
